RachidaThe name [Coaster] holds the meaning of [vehicle carrying the passengers safely and comfortably]. The origin of the name comes from [Coastal trade vessel] and [Cruise ship].
This model is also offered to Nissan as an OEM product, Liesse. It started as fixed route mini bus for Bureau of Transportation Tokyo Metropolitan Government, Japan. The model was also adopted to transport passengers at The International Exposition in Tsukuba, Japan, 1985. It is a highly popular model that can be seen often on the streets in Japan, in such form as school buses. This long known model, is said to be produced in 1956, when Toyota put a bus body on top of a route truck. It was then called light-bus instead of microbus, mainly because of the way it looks. The latest model is the 3rd generation since the full-remodeling in 1992, and users can now choose Hybrid EV buses.
In 2015, There was some alternation made in the features. Improvement was made in the 4 liter diesel N04C engine to make it more economical, and this leads to achieving the latest domestic fuel efficiency standards.

Also, the seating capacity was enlarged as many as 25 passengers. The model is also popular as infants' transportation for kindergartens. Coaster's infant seats are larger than the last model, and at the front row of the infants' seats is equipped with cushioned railing in case of the passengers bumping on the railing.
