Why the japanese kei truck so popular in the world?

Today, I would like to share the issue of why kei trucks are so popular in Japan, and trust me, there is no one but me who can explain this better. Since my family is a rice farmer, I grew up seeing my parents planting and harvesting the crops. My father owns a kei truck to help him out with his daily work, just like many other farmers in Japan. Kei truck has always in my sight when I was growing up.

What is "KEI TRUCK"

"KEI TRUCK" is a Japanese original mini trcuk manufactured and sold by Japanese makers. Some of the kei truck models are; SUZUKI Carry, DAIHATSU Hijet, SUBARU Samber, HONDA Acty, MITSUBISHI Minicab, NISSAN Clipper etc.
Kei trucks are popular because of their low price, high quality, pleasant running speed at even 100-120km, smooth running on bad roads, and good enough loading capacity it's small!

Why are "KEI TRUCKS" so popular?

Especially in countries with more developing areas such as Africa and Asia, kei trucks are valued as handy in the excellence in running performance and low price. Some years ago, they became very popular and since so many of them were exported, Japanese used vehicle market became short in stock for kei trucks.

Purpose : Agriculture

There is various usage of kei trucks, and are most frequent ly used in the agricultural purposes. Why are they so popular?

Moreover, kei trucks may pull up by the road side or market and the truck bed can be a handy shop to sell the crops such as bananas and cassava, as soon as they are harvested.

Purpose : Mining, Construction, Transport industry etc.

Kei trucks are also popular for transporting usage in businesses such as mining and constructions. It could be used as it is, or could be remodeled into dump trucks. It is likely the roads to pit mines, drilling or construction sites could be rough, narrow, muddy or groving with trees and bushes, but a kei truck may pass through those environment with no problem.

Many Kei trucks are used as it is, but when it comes to remodeling them into a dump, craned, or refrigerator and freezer truck, it could be less expensive with a kei, compared to regular or large sized ones. That is also the reason why they are so popular.

Since I've seen them through my childhood days, I understand kei trucks are good partners for farmers in Japan. But now I see so many people all over the world working with Japanese kei in various scenes.
